august 2004 . 10:09 pm PT It's been awhile. I moved. Which is an entirely tiring and exhausting effort. You understand. But I've been doing things in the meantime. 1. Camping at Steep Ravine. Sleeping in a tent, under the stars, on a stunning and fog-drenched hill.
2. Lazing around on Jami's summer estate in Napa. It's absolutely off the beaten path, with a pool, a swing, a tree house, wine, big dogs, hot dogs, and a private barn (a.k.a. Jami's apartment). People there sit around and talk about "the business," whatever that may be. We spent one afternoon at a spa in Calistoga -- my first real spa experience, complete with mineral bath, massage, and meditation time by the "zen" pool. Stellar.
3. Documenting ugly-ass "art" in downtown San Francisco. Honestly, this "fountain" is the most atrocious thing I've ever seen. And it is HUGE. They recently turned the thing on -- which helps, I have to say. Because it washes away most of the urine that pools around the base of it. The structure sits right across the street from the beautifully restored Ferry Building, so it's in a very high traffic area. Fix it, Gavin! And bring back gay marriage! I mean it.
4. Waiting for the train in the morning; disembarking from the train in the afternoon. This is my view, from the top of Dolores Park, each way. Isn't fog great?
Does it get much better than this? Yes. Things I'm looking forward to that should be even better: Thanksgiving in Beijing, New Year's Eve in Chicago, weddings in San Diego and upstate New York. Prom Night 1987. Our First Housewarming. Election night. Winning the Olympic gold medal. Stuff like that.
