the Battle of Crazy Knee

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
welcome.

crazyknee.com is:
a personal Web page launched Nov. 1, 2000,
the day Leanne had ACL/meniscus repair performed
on her right leg. Hence the "crazy knee."
This page will be updated in some weekly way.

The infamous Bill Werde tags along with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, spending beer-filled UK days with the band and living to tell. Here's Karen O. on stage: "She’s untethered, unhinged, maybe even completely unaware, certainly in that special place that Iggy’d visit when he’d slice himself, or Morrison went when he’d reach a convulsion. Journos and photogs in the pit up front have already been covered in Karen-ness. Her bottle caps. Her water. Her beer. Her spit." Awesome.

I haven't checked on the 826 Valencia site lately (I don't know what I've been doing), but they have an all-new look and feel. 826 is SF's pirate-supply store, and a writing center, created by the all-knowing Dave Eggers. Yes, you can buy eye patches and lard. The FAQ (which is great fun) has more questions, few answers.

Now you too can listen to my spastic radio appearance.

LUV NPLY -- I'm guessing it's for love and play?

I'm a radio star. Oh it's true. I shared my stalking expertise on KALW's Invisible Ink Sunday (local, independent and underground!). Check the site, because the show will be posted soon and you don't want to miss it. I'm the first of three interviewed in the half-hour program; you'll hear me giggling about how much I love stalking record store clerks. Roman (the host and creator) asked me to contribute to the show last minute -- we once exchanged email about cyberstalking -- and I said hell yes. Great fun. He also says on his site that I'm "really funny." Written proof! (I just noticed that Mr. Mark Contois appeared on Invisible Ink. He's off to Portland for the summer, but now we can hear him when the urge strikes for some Contwah-isms.)

Clear and sunny today (god bless the troops), so we gathered our forces and had marvelous foods at Jason's Baker Beach resort (after watching most of the MTV "Punk'd" marathon). Here's Jason rocking out:

this boy is always playing with his instrument. awwwwww yeah.

Sunday we climbed around the ruins of Sutro Baths (it was a sprawling public bathhouse -- seven thousand people turned out for the 1896 opening). The fog was rolling in, we both had cameras. It was a mess.

once a three-acre resort with six glass-enclosed pools, now birdshit-encased stones

oh this is gonna look so cool

excuse me while I relieve myself

I'm thinking

we're ridiculous

Blogging is all over the media these days, and now photo blogs take the top Arts & Leisure story in Sunday's New York Times. Puh-lease. (But as far as photo blogs go, don't miss Fotolog.net and Japanese Streets). A much better read is the Q&A with Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

don't I look CRAZY?

this is years old, from the bathroom up on Belvedere Street. Many a good self-portrait was shot in that mirror.

Saw the new Matrix, and it was okay. There's a preview for the next Matrix after the (ridiculously long) credits roll. The Godard film wasn't all that great. But Gillian & David at the Palace of Fine Arts was superb. That pair has talent (and a new album next week). Here's a great video of a sad slow song from their last release. Dad, you'll love this!

Oh lordy, an all-jazz Beck tribute album? "The familiar refrain of 'Loser' becomes instrumental caramel," reports the Chronicle.

These days I'm in love with Badly Drawn Boy, "The Hour of Bewilderbeast" and The Kills, "Keep on Your Mean Side."

Memorial Day = BBQ? Anyone? Bueller?

it was this big!

I still haven't seen the new Matrix. But I did see a screening of "Raging Bull" (intense! classic!) and now I must see Godard's musical "A Woman is a Woman" (frenchy singing fun) at the Castro. I also really want to see "Winged Migration," about the BIRDS. I'm telling you, it's gonna be great.

Last week: Walked by a guy in a bike helmet balanced on a Segway Human Transporter, corner of Noe & 14th. Seeing this thing on the street is simply mad. It's hard to believe, the way it floats upright. Did I tell you I rode one? Oh I did, right into a wall. Follow along as Slate invades Paris by Segways.

Sunday: Annual Bay to Breakers madness, when tens of hundreds of thousands of people arise at 8 am to don costumes (or wear nothing at all) and run/walk/dance the seven miles between the bay and the Pacific. World's largest foot race. Huge fricking party, all across town. We watched from Christa's Fell street stoop, huge sound system to our right, people squirting hoses to our left, kegs rolling straight down the street. Grand. (And only one guy died.)

Yesterday: Finished reading "The Lovely Bones." Shed many tears. Ah, life and love and death, what else is there? Family. Pain. Grief. Joy. Etc. Recommended.

Tonight: "Buffy" series finale (boohooo) and Gillian Welch on stage.

Tomorrow: More hot hot heat on the SF streets. This only happens for a week or two a year, my friends. Must take advantage.

are you a Hyster? I feel like one. Whatever that means.

What's wrong with The Matrix? Uh-oh, it's a brutal review. And a history. Find out how this thing you call "the matrix" powers the delusion of mass terrorists and bolsters medieval Christian beliefs. Come Thursday, Morpheus kicks off an orgy, Matrix-style. The best! (Meanwhile, other critics are still entertained.)

Librarians make voting fun: Connect with your elected officials (including, duh, the Pres) by email, phone numbers, voting history, and so much more. Scan current key votes then enter your zip code to find out what your representatives are up to. It's a snap! Brought to you by the American Librarian Association.

Another supplier of t-shirts that will make you instantly popular: T-Shirt Hell. Available in all sizes, even if you're a little baby.

KFOG Kaboom Saturday night -- the annual fireworks spectacular synced to Top-40 music -- and we were on a boat in the bay. It's all about who you know, folks. Who do you know.

"Identity," starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Ray Liotta: Scary! Tense. Nicely surprising. Pays tribute to classic slasher flicks. Thumbs up.

Sacrilege, blasphemy: It was Bonnie Burke's birthday five days ago and I didn't call or write or send a card. Bonnie, I think of you often and miss you much. Soon!

Leanne and Bonnie, circa 2001. sweet memories. *blows kisses*

As soon as I send this update live, I'm going to (try and) set up my brand new uber fast computer system. Oh YES. My hope, my dream, is that this will translate into more of this right here. Hoo boy.

They did indeed let me on the plane last week, with a photocopied picture ID from the CA DMV, the words "not an official verification" stamped all over it (this is all I have to go on until the laminated and official license arrives in the mail). Guess I don't look like a terrorist. In fact, in a couple places they never asked to see my ID. People! I have scissors! And syringes!

Made it to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the joyous (and hot, oh that East Coast humidity) celebration of Kristin and Todd's nuptials. We all analyzed John's new haircut while eating the Yannick's famous meatballs. And Yuengling beer, gulp sigh. There was a fiery duel between the mothers on opposing sides of the new family, but no one was hurt. At least not physically. Rumor has it that my reading brought one of the bridesmaids to tears. And -- get this -- my date gladly participated in a swing dancing lesson at the reception. Wonders will never cease. All in all, it was lovely.

Kristin and Todd! Together till death!

It took two men to walk Kristin down the aisle.

Who are those guys? They must be from out of town.

Here's what else you'll find in Raleigh, North Carolina. Yes, there's a lot of wood:

God damn this cross is heavy.

fly, fly away! i'll fly higher than an eagle!

must. take. more. pictures. of. wood.

Hyster!

And to clear up Monday night's debate: Cinco de Mayo honors the Mexican victory over the French in 1862, well after their 1810 independence from Spain. It's also Brooke's birthday and her family knows how to throw down on a Monday night! Aye yie yie!

seems like an unlikely place for a bus stop

oh oh oh, listen to the music

knock knock. who's there? harris. harris who? Hair is nice to have on your head! ha ha, I'm really funny.
